Authorship Criteria

Automech: Jurnal Teknik Mesin requires that every person listed as an author has made a real contribution to the work and takes responsibility for it. AutoMech follows the authorship recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Who qualifies as an author

Each author listed in a manuscript must meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data;
  2. drafted the manuscript or revised it critically for important intellectual content;
  3. approved the final version of the manuscript to be published; and
  4. agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions about the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are properly investigated and resolved.

Every author should also be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for the other specific parts of the work.

2. Contributors who do not qualify as authors

People who contributed to the work but do not meet all four criteria must not be listed as authors. Their contribution should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgment section instead. Examples include:

  • providing funding or general supervision of a research group only;
  • providing technical assistance, laboratory or workshop support, or access to equipment;
  • helping with data collection only;
  • language editing or proofreading.

Gift authorship (listing someone who did not contribute) and ghost authorship (leaving out someone who did contribute) are not allowed and will be handled under the Automech Allegations of Research Misconduct policy.

3. Corresponding author

The corresponding author acts on behalf of all authors and is responsible for:

  • making sure that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria and have approved the manuscript before submission;
  • making sure that the names, order, and affiliations of all authors are correct and complete;
  • handling all communication with Automech during submission, review, revision, and publication;
  • keeping all co-authors informed about the progress of the manuscript.

4. Author order and authorship changes

The order of authors should be agreed by all authors before submission. Authors are responsible for making sure that the author list is final and correct when the manuscript is submitted.

Any addition, removal, or change of author names or affiliations after submission must follow the Automech Correction and Retraction Policy: the corresponding author must send an email request to Automech together with a statement letter signed by all authors, including any author being added or removed. Requests without the signatures of all authors will not be processed. Corrections after publication are limited to errors in the writing of author names and affiliations.

5. Authorship disputes

Automech: Jurnal Teknik Mesin does not decide who should or should not be an author. Authorship disputes must be resolved among the authors or by their institution. If a dispute cannot be resolved, Automech may pause the processing of the manuscript and refer the matter to the authors’ institution.
