Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of emotion regulation skills in early childhood which is still in the developmental stage. Children's ability to manage emotions can be influenced by various factors, one of which is the parenting style applied by parents. Authoritarian parenting characterized by strict rules and demands for obedience without giving children the opportunity to express their feelings can allegedly affect the development of children's emotional regulation. This study aims to determine the relationship between authoritarian parenting and early childhood emotional regulation. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The subjects of the study were 56 parents who had early childhood. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire, then the data was analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test after meeting the normality and linearity prerequisite tests. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between authoritarian parenting and early childhood emotion regulation. The results of the correlation test obtained a significance value of 0.750 (p > 0.05) with a correlation coefficient of 0.044 which showed a very weak relationship. These findings suggest that authoritarian parenting is not a major factor related to early childhood emotion regulation ability. Children's emotional regulation may be influenced by other factors such as age, child characteristics, social experiences, and the environment around the child.
