Correction and Retraction Policy
1. Introduction
Musyarakah: Journal of Sharia Economics (MJSE) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes that errors or ethical concerns may occasionally be identified after an article has been published. Appropriate corrective action is therefore necessary to ensure that readers have access to reliable scholarly information.
This policy establishes the procedures for correcting errors, publishing errata, retracting articles, and notifying readers of significant changes to published content. MJSE implements these procedures in accordance with recognized publication ethics principles and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
2. Correction of Published Articles
MJSE will assess requests to correct published articles when errors are identified by authors, readers, editors, reviewers, or other relevant parties.
Corrections may be considered for errors involving factual information, author details, affiliations, references, tables, figures, data presentation, or other content that requires amendment. The editorial team will evaluate the nature and significance of each error to determine the appropriate corrective action.
Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect the interpretation or reliability of the research may be corrected in accordance with the journal's editorial procedures. Errors that could influence the interpretation of findings, research conclusions, or the accuracy of the published record will be assessed more carefully and may require a formal correction notice.
Requests for correction must be submitted to the editorial team with a clear description of the error and supporting information. The editorial team may consult the authors or independent experts before deciding whether a correction is warranted.
3. Publication of Erratum and Correction Notices
When a published article requires a formal correction, MJSE may issue an erratum or another appropriate correction notice, depending on the nature and origin of the error and the journal's editorial terminology.
A correction notice should:
- Clearly identify the original article, including its title, authors, publication details, and DOI, where available.
- Describe the error and provide the corrected information.
- Explain the nature of the correction and, where necessary, its implications for the interpretation of the article.
- Include the date of publication of the correction notice.
- Provide a direct link between the correction notice and the original article.
The corrected information will be made accessible to readers, and the journal will maintain an appropriate record of the correction. The original article will not be silently altered in a way that obscures substantive changes to the published scholarly record.
4. Article Retraction
Retraction may be considered when an article contains serious errors or ethical violations that substantially undermine the reliability, validity, or integrity of the published work.
Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to:
- Major errors that invalidate the principal findings or conclusions.
- Fabrication or falsification of research data.
- Plagiarism or substantial unattributed duplication.
- Serious violations of research ethics or publication ethics.
- Manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.
- Other circumstances that render the published article unreliable or seriously compromise the integrity of the scholarly record.
Before making a retraction decision, the editorial team will assess the available evidence and, where appropriate, request explanations from the authors or consult relevant experts and institutions. The decision will be made fairly, independently, and in accordance with applicable publication ethics guidance.
When retraction is warranted, MJSE will publish a formal retraction notice that identifies the affected article and explains the reason for retraction as clearly as appropriate. The notice will be linked to the original publication.
The retracted article will remain identifiable as retracted, rather than being silently removed, to preserve the transparency and traceability of the scholarly record. Any exceptional removal of article content will be handled in accordance with applicable legal, ethical, and publication requirements.
5. Notification to Readers
MJSE considers timely and transparent communication with readers an essential part of maintaining publication integrity.
When a correction, erratum, or retraction is issued, the journal will notify readers through the relevant publication record on its official website. The notice will be linked to the original article so that readers can readily identify the changes or understand the reason for retraction.
Where appropriate and feasible, the journal may also notify relevant indexing services, repositories, publishing platforms, or other organizations to help ensure that the correction or retraction is reflected in the wider scholarly record.
If a significant concern is under investigation but a final decision has not yet been reached, MJSE may issue an expression of concern when warranted. Such a notice will inform readers of the issue while the investigation continues.
6. Editorial Responsibilities
The editorial team of Musyarakah: Journal of Sharia Economics (MJSE) is responsible for handling correction and retraction cases promptly, objectively, and transparently.
Editors will evaluate the evidence, communicate with relevant parties when necessary, and determine the most appropriate action based on the seriousness of the issue and its implications for the published work.
All decisions will prioritize the integrity of the scholarly record rather than the interests of individual authors, institutions, funders, or other parties. The journal will document relevant decisions and communicate outcomes to the parties concerned as appropriate.
7. Commitment to Publication Integrity
Through this policy, MJSE seeks to ensure that errors in published research are addressed appropriately, serious ethical violations are handled responsibly, and readers are informed of changes affecting the reliability of scholarly publications.
The journal is committed to maintaining an accurate, transparent, and trustworthy scholarly record in the fields of Islamic economics and finance, including Islamic banking, Islamic accounting, Islamic microfinance, zakat, waqf, and Islamic philanthropy.
