Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal Terapan Ekonomi dan Bisnis
Jurnal Terapan Ekonomi dan Bisnis is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity. We view plagiarism as a serious breach of professional conduct. To ensure the quality and originality of the research we publish, every manuscript submitted to our journal must be an original work that has not been published previously.
1. Plagiarism Detection Tool
To verify the originality of all submitted manuscripts, the Editorial Board uses Compilatio plagiarism detection software.
All manuscripts will be automatically scanned by Compilatio upon submission and before the double-blind peer review process begins.
2. Similarity Threshold (Max 30%)
Our journal maintains a strict maximum similarity index of 30%. However, we process results with human judgment; we look at where the matches occur, not just the final number.
Here is how we handle manuscripts based on the Compilatio report:
A. Similarity Index < 30% (Accepted)
-
Status: Passed.
-
The manuscript meets our originality requirements and will proceed to the Peer Review stage.
-
Note: Even if the score is low, if the editor finds specific sentences copied without citation, the author may still be asked to correct them.
B. Similarity Index 30% – 50% (Revision Required)
-
Status: Conditional Revision.
-
The manuscript is sent back to the author.
-
The author must paraphrase the text, add proper citations, or remove redundant content to bring the similarity score below 30%.
-
The revised manuscript must be re-submitted within a specified timeframe.
C. Similarity Index > 50% (Rejected)
-
Status: Declined.
-
The manuscript will be rejected immediately (Desk Reject) without undergoing peer review.
-
The author will be notified of the rejection due to excessive similarity.
3. What Counts as Plagiarism?
We check for the following types of academic misconduct:
-
Verbatim Copying: Copying text word-for-word from another source without using quotation marks or proper attribution.
-
Paraphrasing without Citation: Changing a few words or the sentence structure of a source while keeping the original idea, without giving credit to the original author.
-
Self-Plagiarism: Reusing significant portions of your own previously published work without proper referencing (salami slicing or text recycling).
4. Review Protocol
When the Editor analyzes the Compilatio report, the following filters are usually applied to ensure fairness:
-
Bibliography/References: Excluded from the percentage count.
-
Standard Phrases: Common economic or business terminology (e.g., names of institutions, standard formulas, or laws) are taken into consideration and generally do not count as plagiarism.
5. Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected:
-
During the Review Process: The manuscript will be immediately rejected.
-
After Publication: If plagiarism is proven after the article has been published, the article will be formally Retracted. A notice of retraction will be posted in the journal, and the author may be banned from submitting future work to Jurnal Terapan Ekonomi dan Bisnis.
