Submissions

The journal covers original research articles, systematic reviews, literature reviews, meta-analyses, and case studies with a minimum sample size of 30 participants, related to any domain of health sciences. It publishes articles reporting novel findings in the fields of nursing, midwifery, public health, medicine, pharmacy, biochemistry, and molecular biology–related drug design. Studies addressing national health priorities, ethical considerations, and policy implications are particularly encouraged.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

All manuscripts should be submitted online through the Indonesian Journal for Health Sciences (IJHS) submission system. Upon submission, authors will receive an automatic acknowledgment e-mail containing a tracking article ID for future reference. If the acknowledgment e-mail is not received (please check the spam folder), authors are advised to resubmit the manuscript through the system. Submissions sent via e-mail or post will not be accepted. Authors can monitor the progress of their manuscripts through the online tracking system.

All submissions are subject to initial editorial screening and plagiarism detection. IJHS enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism, fabrication, and redundant publication. Manuscripts containing uncredited copied material will be rejected immediately, and if duplication is detected after publication, the article will be retracted in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.

EDITORIAL PROCESS

Each manuscript is reviewed by the editors, and if of a sufficient standard, sent for blinded review by at least two reviewers from different provinces or regions, selected by the journal team based on their expertise.  The journal follows a double-blind review process, wherein the reviewers and authors are unaware of each other's identity. The editorial team, based on the comments from the reviewers, takes a final decision on the manuscript.  The outcome may be acceptance without revision, acceptance with minor corrections, acceptance with major revisions, or rejection. The corresponding author will be allowed to revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ suggestions. The final decision, including acceptance for publication or rejection, will be communicated in writing to the corresponding author.

Manuscripts accepted for publication are copy edited for grammar, punctuation, print style, and format. Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author. The corresponding author is expected to return the corrected proofs. The whole process of submission of the manuscript to the final decision and sending and receiving proofs is completed online.

MANUSCRIPT GUIDELINES

a. Formatting Requirements
      1. Use MS Word, single-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman.
      2. Use English (U.S.) as the language.
      3.  Avoid text footnotes; they should be incorporated into the main text.
      4.  Follow the journal layout as provided in the official IJHS journal template.

b. Manuscript Structure

1. Title: Must be brief, informative, and indicate the main point(s) of the paper (IJHS: 5–15 words).
2. Author’s Name: Must be complete but without any title, accompanied by the author’s corresponding address, institution address, and e-mail address.
3. Abstract: The abstract should consist of background, purpose, methods, results, and conclusion. Should not exceed 200 words, written in one paragraph, including a brief description of the paper and a summary of key conclusions. The abstract is clearly written and is short to help readers get an understanding of the new and important aspects without reading the whole article. Must be written in two languages: Bahasa Indonesia and English.
4. Keywords: Keywords are written on the same page with abstract separated from each other with a semicolon (;). Please use  3-5 appropriate words for helping with the indexing.
5. Introduction: Explain the research problem(s), problem-solving plan and idea, research objective(s), and theoretical review (with or without subtitles). It must provide adequate background and review previous research to identify existing solutions or methods, highlight their limitations, and demonstrate the novelty or scientific merit of the paper. The purpose and major aim of the study should be clearly stated at the end of the introduction section
6. Methods: should be structured as follows:
   Research Design: Describe the specific research design used (e.g., correlational, experimental, quasi-experimental, cross-sectional) and provide relevant details about the design applied.
   Setting and Samples/Participants: State when and where the study was conducted without mentioning the specific site name. Describe the sampling strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, recruitment methods, sample size, and justification, including sample size calculation or power analysis if applicable.
   Intervention (for experimental studies): Describe the intervention, the setting, and the provider(s) involved. If a control group is included, explain the intervention provided to this group.
   Measurement and Data Collection: Describe the instruments used, including whether they were developed, adopted, or modified, and provide citations. State the validity, reliability, scales, interpretation, and administration procedures. If translation was involved, explain the process used to maintain validity and reliability. Describe how data were collected and who collected them.
   Data Analysis:  Explain the data analysis techniques used, including the software if applicable, and provide references for specific analytic methods.
   Trustworthiness/Rigor (for qualitative studies): Describe strategies used to ensure the trustworthiness of data, such as credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability.
   Ethical Considerations: Explain ethical issues, how informed consent was obtained, and provide the ethical approval statement with reference number from the relevant ethics committee.
   If standard methods are modified, explanations must be included.

7. Results: Results state the major findings of the research instead of providing data in great detail. Results should be clear, concise, and can be reported on texts or graphics. Please provide some introduction for the information presented on tables or figures.
8. Discussion: The discussion should explore the significance of the results of the study. The following components should be covered in the discussion: (1) How do your results relate to the original question or objectives outlined in the background section (what)? (2) Do you provide provide an interpretation scientifically for each of your results or findings presented (why)?, and (3) Are  your results consistent with what other investigators have reported (what else)? Or are there any differences?
9. Conclusion: Summarize the final results and their implications.
10. Acknowledgment: Limited to collegial and financial assistance. It should not recognize personal or manuscript production support.
11. References: References must be searchable online and written using Mendeley. References should primarily consist of international journals, national journals, and proceedings. Recent books (published within the last 10 years) may also be used. Authors are expected to cite at least one article from the Indonesian Journal for Health Sciences if relevant. References must be searchable online and written using IEEE style.The number of references should be at least 30, of which 80% of them should be from journal articles.

12. Special Instructions

• Mathematics: Use italics for variables, bold for vectors and matrices, script for transforms, and sans serif for tensors. Superscripts and subscripts should be in proper position (not raised or lowered fonts).
• Tables: Each table must have a title and column headings. Footnotes should be indicated with superscript lowercase letters. All tables must be cited in the text.
• Figures: Cite figures in numerical order. Clearly mark orientation if needed. Indicate latitude and longitude on maps. Costs for publishing color figures or special features must be borne by the author.

SUBMISSION PREPARATION CHECKLIST

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor). The author needs to submit the plagiarism check results to prove the article's originality.
2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Each submitted manuscript must conform to the Instructions to Authors and should be submitted online at https://journal.umpo.ac.id/index.php/IJHS/index. The instructions for registering, submission, and revision are provided on the website. If any difficulties are found, authors can contact the editorial office via email: ijhs@umpo.ac.id. The author should first register as an author and/or is offered as a reviewer through the following address: https://journal.umpo.ac.id/index.php/IJHS/about/submissions

The author should fill out the form as detailed as possible, where the star-marked form must be entered. After all forms of textbox were filled, the author clicks on the "Register" button to proceed with the registration. Therefore, the author is brought to an online author submission interface where the author should click on "New Submission." In the Start of a New Submission section, click on "’Click Here’: to go to step one of the five-step submission process."

The following are five steps in the online submission process:

1. Step 1 - Starting the Submission: Select the appropriate section of the journal, i.e., Original Research Articles, Review Article, or Case Report. Thus, the author must check-mark on the submission checklists. The author may type or copy-paste the Covering Letter in Letter to Editor.
2. Step 2 – Uploading the Submission: To upload a manuscript to this journal, click Browse on the Upload submission file item and choose the manuscript document file (.doc/.docx) to be submitted; then, click the "Upload" button until the file has been uploaded.
3. Step 3 – Entering Submission’s Metadata: In this step, detailed authors metadata should be entered, including the marked corresponding author. After that, the manuscript title and abstract must be uploaded by copying the text and paste in the textbox, including keywords.
4. Step 4 – Uploading Supplementary Files: Supplementary files should be uploaded, including Covering/Submission Letter and Signed Copyright Transfer Agreement Form. Click on the Browse button, choose the files, and then click on the Upload button.
5. Step 5 – Confirming the Submission: The author should final check the uploaded manuscript documents in this step. To submit the manuscript to Indonesian Journal for Health Sciences, click the Finish Submission button after the documents are accurate. The corresponding author or the principal contact will receive an acknowledgment by email and will be able to view the submission's progress through the editorial process by logging into the journal web address site.

After this submission, Authors who submit the manuscript will get a confirmation email about the submission. Therefore, Authors are able to track their submission status anytime by logging into the online submission interface. The submission tracking includes the status of the manuscript review and editorial process.
