The 2012 WTTC Global Tourism Summit in Tokyo, Japan, set the scene for the announcement of the winners of the highly contested, and widely applauded, WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. Now in its ninth year, the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards receive strong praise as being among the highest accolades in the Travel & Tourism industry for their emphasis on the need to ensure meaningful, sustainable and truly equitable growth and development of travel and tourism for both travellers and destinations.

This year, over 150 entries were received from over 60 countries. The judging panel evaluated entries competing across four critical categories of competition, directly reflecting essential areas of sustainable, holistic tourism business development.

2012's winners of the awards were applauded at a gathering of over 800 tourism leaders who came together in Tokyo from across the globe. The honour of announcing the winners was given to Brett Tollman, global CEO of The Travel Corporation (TTC), which has within its portfolio TTC's Conservation Foundation, a not-for-profit organization actively supporting sustainable tourism development and the protection of culturally and ecologically sensitive areas around the world.
